Upcoming Conference: 2013 Critical Race Theory Conference at Yale Law School Feb. 8-9, 2013. The info on the call-for-papers from the organizers is below:
Call for Proposals
We invite students, scholars, and practitioners to submit papers, panels, and workshop ideas relating to one or more of the themes for the conference: 1) Critical Race Theory and the Academy; 2) Critical Race Theory and the Judiciary; 3) Critical Race Theory in the Community. A detailed description of each theme is listed below:
Critical Race Theory and the Academy
In its first couple of decades, CRT scholars and writers showed us that race is embedded in the very foundation of our legal institutions and laws. Since then, changes in the meanings of race in our society have outpaced changes in the law and, consequently, law school curriculum and law school pedagogy. Where does CRT go from here?
Critical Race Theory and the Judiciary
How can we reconcile the historical underpinnings of critical race theory with its current applications to the realm of judicial decision-making? To what extent does critical race theory remain directly responsive to pressing social justice concerns within the so-called “post-racial” era by offering corrective interventions that confront head-on the racism and the continued subordination of marginalized communities?
Critical Race Theory in the Community
How are the tenets and principles of Critical Race Theory actively being used to confront systems that marginalize and oppress communities of color? What are the current strategies of community engagement and additional ways that Critical Race Theory can be applied and translated to the day-to-day work of social and political transformation? Moving CRT beyond the academy, this theme will bring together practitioners in a much-needed conversation about how CRT can inform and enrich struggles for racial justice today.
All proposals should include the paper, panel or workshop title, a 300-500 word abstract, the names, affiliations, and CVs or resumes of all participants, and any audio-visual requests. We strongly encourage practitioners or advocates, graduate or law students, and junior or senior scholars to apply. The deadline to submit proposals is Monday, December 17, 2012. All questions regarding the proposal may be submitted to: crt.conference@yale.edu
