New Op-Ed: We Are Not the Resistance

New Op-Ed: Michelle Alexander, We Are Not the Resistance, NYTimes.com, Sept. 21, 2018.

Donald Trump is the one who is pushing back against the new nation that’s struggling to be born.

“In fact, the whole of American history can be described as a struggle between those who truly embraced the revolutionary idea of freedom, equality and justice for all and those who resisted.”

Yawn. This quote, like most of the article, is pure rhetoric framed in Whig history.

I expected more from Michelle Alexander than a Pollyanna description of history as a battle between clearly delineated Good and Evil.

When the Resistance (or Movement), as she admits, is little more than “a commitment to resisting Donald Trump — the man, not necessarily his mission,” the troubling lack of coordinated policy proposals by the Left becomes obvious.

The Resistance, as she notes, seems little more than a hashtag and some people waving pom-poms in the streets: a quick way to signal your virtue to others over social media and for companies to cash in on the latest “we care” wave in marketing by attaching #metoo or #resist to their advertisements. (Of course, only while the popular outrage on the issue lasts).

How many policies have resulted from these recent “movements?”

The Civil Rights organizers from the 60’s must be shaking their heads.
